We were there on 28th Feb 2026. The staff were attentive, the waiters and bar team were very good, and the beers were spot on. My Black Sheep ale was perfect. The vegetables were perfect too, the steak and stilton pie was very good, and the desserts were mostly good: excellent brownies, good Eton Mess and sticky toffee pudding. The jam roly poly tasted a little odd at first, but seemed fine after a couple of mouthfuls. A lot of the other food fell short. The starters looked well presented, but the quality wasn't there. My lamb kofta was warm and dry, as if reheated, and rather hard, though the flavour was good. Koftas should be hot, sizzling and juicy. The mushrooms in leek sauce were button mushrooms from a tin. The meatballs were also firm and dry, perhaps because there wasn't enough egg and breadcrumbs to loosen them. The menu described the beef bourguignon as classic beef with a rich sauce of mushrooms, bacon, garlic, red wine and thyme. What arrived was braised beef in Oxo gravy. I saw an empty bucket of Oxo beef granules under a leaky pipe in the gents' toilet, which is why I suspect that. The beef itself was tender, but it wasn't what the menu promised. The sauce had no onions or mushrooms, and no red wine that I could taste. The mashed potatoes had a strange, slightly sour flavour. The Cajun chicken wasn't great either, the black searing tasted mostly of burnt oil, and the pizzas were abysmal. Portions were very inconsistent. With an open kitchen, guests don't need to watch chefs portion out salad and vegetables. I'm a chef too, and I know chefs keep their hands clean, but that sight isn't what guests want. I also saw a cook scratch his face while peeling vegetables, then carry on. The food came out within 10-15 minutes, which made me think it hadn't been freshly cooked. I didn't see steam from pots on the cooker, but did notice gravy and soup in jugs covered with cling film. The vegetable soup wasn't nice; I suspected it had been reheated rather than made fresh in a pot. The potatoes tasted canned and unseasoned. The kitchen staff seemed to have little to do and stood around talking once the food was out. All in all, it was an okay night, though some of the food let us down. Portion control needs attention, and I don't think Oxo granules belong in the sauces. Making brown stock, a jus and the right roux isn't difficult. A bit more finesse and thoughtfulness would go a long way. This is meant as constructive criticism for Corn Mill, not a negative review.

I would use this hotel again for work in the area. The restaurant food and service were decent and fairly priced, and I could adjust the heating myself, which was nice. The desk and chair were comfortable for working, and the staff were welcoming. My top-floor room was spacious, with one of the best hotel beds and pillows I've had. The shower had good pressure, but the water temperature varied a lot. I think the room was near a water tank or another part of the heating or water system, as it made a lot of noise at different times, including short spells very early in the morning. Parking is tight if you have a larger car.

Corn-Mill Lodge saved the day, and I can highly recommend it. The rooms seem to have had investment and were already up to a good standard. I'd stayed there the night before and was very pleased with the place, including the helpful booking service. After that stay, I had the start of a terrible migraine and didn't feel safe to drive the long distance ahead. I called to ask if I could check back in, and they found room for me. Jayne got a room ready as soon as possible so I could get to sleep safely. Such a huge help. It's a lovely hotel, and I'll stay again and recommend it.

We booked a Sunday carvery at The Corn Mill for eight family members and weren't disappointed. There was a great choice of meats and vegetables, and the food was delicious, the best in the area. The staff were attentive. We'll be back.

I stopped for a random lunch after passing this place so often. It's just off a roundabout, so watch for the turn, and there's plenty of parking. The building looks old, perhaps simply because it is, and the restaurant could do with an update, though it's okay. The staff were kind and polite. The open kitchen didn't suit me because customers can hear the staff and they can't really relax or joke together. I haven't stayed in the rooms, so I can't rate them. The food was disappointing. My tea tasted cheap. I asked for some ingredients to be left out of my salad, but was told it comes as it is. They count salad as a main course and serve it on a main plate, which seems to be how they price it. My meal was far too salty, and most of the vegetables seemed reheated. The cauliflower was the only one that seemed nicely steamed. I had to leave some food because of the salt. My husband's pie had ham and turkey together, which might have been a bad combination, and the ham tasted sour and off. I saw the kitchen staff taking ready-made items from pots and warming them, rather than cooking much. I didn't see steam coming from pots on the cooker, while the gravy and soup were in jugs covered with cling film. From my kitchen experience, the vegetable soup didn't seem freshly made in a pot and may have been microwaved or otherwise reheated. It didn't taste good. The food arrived within 10-15 minutes, which also made me think it wasn't fresh. With so much food being served, the kitchen staff then seemed to have nothing to do but stand around talking. Even the potatoes tasted canned and unseasoned. At one point, I saw a cook scratch his face while peeling vegetables, then keep peeling. The staff were nice overall, and the kitchen staff seemed okay, but I wouldn't eat there again. Most of the diners seemed elderly; maybe that's why the food was so salty, or perhaps it's done to make reheated food taste better. The outside advertises meals for about £8.25, but starters on the menu are around £6, and pizzas and desserts around £6-8. Drinks are extra, so keep that in mind. The staff were great, but the food let us down.
