We wouldn’t stay here again. The hotel is dated and run down, with awful reception and dining rooms. Our room was nicely decorated, but the dark 1950s bedroom furniture looked second hand, and the mattress felt worn out. The tea and milk weren’t replenished daily. In the bathroom there were no hooks for a dressing gown, no shelves for toiletries, and nowhere in the shower to put soap. Breakfast was only continental. We’d paid for it, but one morning there were no staff and no food laid out, so we had to find a nearby cafe. The hotel is in a very deprived, run down part of Liverpool, though the Liverpool River front and shopping area are lovely.

The receptionist was warm, polite, patient, welcoming and professional. She gave us clear instructions, suggested taking a picture of the WiFi pass codes, and pointed out the fire assembly points. The room was warm, the sheets clean, and the bathroom spotless. The rest was a letdown. We had to show photo ID at reception, and if we’d read the email about that shortly after booking, we would have cancelled straight away. The street outside was filthy, with people walking up and down apparently going to score. I wouldn’t leave a car there without a wheel lock. The sofa and footstool were filthy and stained, collapsed in the middle, and so disgusting we didn’t sit on them. They should have been thrown away long ago. Mold was on the curtains, which didn’t close fully or block the sunlight. The continental breakfast was poor. The juice was all cheap Sunpride, the turkey and ham were anaemic and reformed, and there was a small bowl of cubed feta, sliced red Leicester, unidentifiable yellow cheese, sweaty salami, and tinned fruit. The pastries were limp and greasy. Toast came from the cheapest yellow label ASDA bread, with horrible sunflower spread. Jams and chocolate spreads sat in large open jars with a spoon in each. Some coffee vending machine options weren’t available, including cappuccino and hot chocolate. They’ve cut every corner they could. We stayed at The Beech Mount a number of years ago, when it was a lovely little oasis on a rough street in Kensington. Now it fits its surroundings: tired, dirty, and in need of regeneration. I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

The staff were 5⭐, caring and always available to help, and breakfast had lots of choice, including decaff coffee, which is usually never available. I had a great stay and will surely return. I was on the top floor. The room seemed cold at first, but warmed up soon and got very cozy. Everything was very clean. There’s plenty of parking in the hotel area and on the street in front. Lots of restaurants are within a 5 minute walk, handy when you’re too tired to drive for a late dinner.

The breakfast was the real highlight, a perfect way to start the day. We were very impressed when we arrived at the Beech Mount Hotel for our trip to Liverpool. The staff were nice and the location was great. The room felt luxurious, and there were plenty of mirrors around the hotel to check yourself out. What a hotel! Would recommend.

It’s an old, quirky building with matching fixtures and fittings, but everything was clean. The friendly staff, reasonable rates, and good car park make it ideal for work. We had a large van for delivering doors. Restaurants are close by too, and I recommend Golden Empire Chinese.
