Malmaison Liverpool

Our room was nice, and we'd booked the evening meal and breakfast for our anniversary. The meal ended up spoiling it. They said they'd run out of three starters, so my partner got noodles with bits of beef, like a pot noodle. My chicken terrine was mashed together and tasteless. For the main, they were out of what we wanted again. My partner had to choose steak or a burger, and I had chicken, a tiny piece with a bit of bone floating in watery gravy. Thank goodness we'd ordered chips and wine. The salad we'd ordered never came, and there was no customer service. We told the man in charge, who said staff had walked out. Breakfast was much the same, with some foods unavailable again. We made do with burnt eggs and a burnt fried sausage. Worst meal I've had. I wouldn't recommend coming here.

The cooked breakfast was excellent, with a very good buffet selection. Our room was clean and had an excellent wet room and bath tub, and the river front location was very nice. Service let the hotel down. I stood at the bar for a couple of minutes while the waitress washed glasses and was ignored. Staff also have an annoying habit of calling customers “Guys”. My wife paid by card for a drink and was thanked with “amazing guys”. They need training.

We stayed in the Bertie suite, and it lived up to expectations. There was loads of room to relax, with fantastic views of the liver buildings. The hotel is close enough to the night life, but once inside it felt a million miles away. We had drinks in the bar in the evening and enjoyed the breakfast selection in the morning. Stunning hotel, and we'd stay again.

We booked a meal for 6pm, and happy hour ran until 8pm, so drinks were half price. The food was really nice and the service was good. We were warmly greeted by staff on arrival, and there was a nice log burner. On the way to our room I spotted a yellow submarine dangling from the ceiling. We'll definitely be back.
