The corridors in the morning were covered with leftover takeaway containers and kebabs. It was disgusting, and by then we couldn’t wait to leave. We’d paid almost £400 for one night in a family room, room only, and it turned out to be one of our worst hotel stays. Our room was large but extremely dated and not cleaned to a good standard. The whole hotel felt grim and run down, completely unacceptable for that price. Most of our floor seemed to be hen parties, and our room was right below an events room. Loud music carried on past midnight, then we heard furniture being dragged around upstairs. Both my children and I were awake for most of the night. Once we finally slept, guests shouting and screaming in the corridors woke us again. At checkout I raised what had happened, but the manager, Chris, showed little interest and said it was apparently my fault for not complaining overnight. I was also told the hotel mainly caters for stag and hen parties. If that’s so, why charge nearly £400 for a family room? With several floors, separating party groups from families trying to sleep seems like basic common sense. We weren’t the only guests complaining that morning, which makes these problems seem well known. Staff seemed used to complaints and not particularly bothered about resolving them. The hotel is massively overpriced, poorly managed and unsuitable for families. Save your money and stay somewhere reliable like Premier Inn or Travelodge.

I stay here all the time, and the staff always make sure my room is just right and I’m comfortable. They’re so lovely, and I’ve had lots of nice interactions with them. Tonight Nya greeted me, helped me find the perfect room, and we had a lovely chat. She’s very down to earth and a real asset to the Shankly hotel. Thanks for always giving me such high quality rooms and looking after me so well as a visitor. 😊

The breakfast was delicious, especially the link sausages, and the staff were really friendly and attentive, particularly in the morning. I would have liked the option of a fried egg, though I’m sure they’d have made one if I’d asked. The six of us were sharing a room for a hen party, with three Superking beds. Staff changed them into singles for us when we arrived, no fuss. The room was huge. My only complaint was the shower over the whirlpool bath had no rail to hold onto. I’d recently broken my wrist, so I couldn’t risk climbing in without support.

The rooms were clean and spacious, and the staff were kind and helpful. We had a lovely midweek stay for two nights. The woman serving breakfast was especially warm and friendly. I didn’t catch her name, but she had blonde hair and glasses, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. I’d definitely come back.

The included buffet breakfast was pretty good, and we felt welcome. Rooms were good, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and knew the area well. It’s a nice hotel at a reasonable price, right in the town centre. I’ll definitely stay again next time I’m in town.
