The hotel's cold in both temperature and atmosphere, and the room was below an acceptable standard. The windows were mouldy, and the cleanliness and upkeep didn’t match the price. The property feels tired and needs proper maintenance. It’s hard to square the advertised four-star rating with what we experienced. Reception service was particularly poor. Staff sometimes chatted among themselves while guests waited at the desk without being acknowledged. I felt like an interruption, and basic questions got little effort. There are better options nearby with warmer service and higher standards. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Breakfast was very good, with a nice choice, and I liked having it brought to the table and served hot. The bar and restaurant look attractive and have a nice atmosphere, but prices are extremely high. £6.25 for a Stella Artois shandy is hard to justify. The grounds and setting are lovely and relaxing, and getting here from Liverpool was easy. The hotel is dog-friendly and exceptionally clean throughout. Our room was well presented, and the modern, spacious walk-in shower was a real highlight. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. The village is an easy walk away, with lovely pubs and restaurants, and the riverside walk is especially nice. I’d definitely return and would 100% recommend the hotel.

We were in town for a family wedding and stayed two nights. The wedding was amazing from start to finish, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff were very friendly and made our dog feel welcome too. The room was lovely, and all the food and drink was wonderful. We’d love to return.

The room itself was fine, and the spa was small but uncrowded, with nice facilities. What brought my review down to two stars was the food. We booked the restaurant for 8pm, but at 7.45 we were disturbed in our room and told last orders were at 8pm. Our package included three courses, but there was very little choice. Mains were three kinds of burger, fish and chips, vegetarian curry, or crispy beef noodles. The noodles had no flavour and seemed cooked in unseasoned water. The curry tasted like it had never had any curry powder in it. Staff were delightful and apologised, but the food let the stay down. We’ve stayed at another hotel in the chain, Rossett Hall Hotel, and the variety and quality there are much better. Llangollen should take note and improve its food.

The location is beautiful, and from the outside the hotel looks lovely, but it needs a lot of work and renovation. We were disappointed by both the spa and restaurant. The spa was cold, the water only lukewarm, and the steam room barely had any steam. Towels cost an extra £2, so bring your own. The changing rooms were appalling, with urine stains and hairs on the floor, marks on the walls, and mould on the wood panelling. The restaurant was dirty too, with food left on the floor from previous guests despite being empty and staff having time to clean. Our afternoon tea reservation came out 15-20 minutes late. The bread was dry and the cakes were okay. Cobwebs were building up, and the window wood was cracked. Bear in mind the restaurant has a hygiene rating of only 2. Overall, disappointing, and I wouldn’t visit again.
