Apollo Hotel

A good budget option close to King’s Cross, with the tube just two minutes down the road. The service was really friendly, and ringing the doorbell got me checked in within minutes. The room was clean, with complimentary tea and coffee and basic shower amenities. It was very warm during the heat wave, and the fan they provided didn’t make up for the lack of air conditioning. Also, the shower only had hot water, with no cold setting.

The location is convenient, near King’s Cross station, but the room felt very old and needs renovating. For what the rooms are like, the price seemed quite high. The receptionist wasn’t welcoming or very friendly.

It cost £130 a night, but the room had no ensuite bathroom and the bed sheets were stained. There was nobody at reception to ask for clean sheets. Never again.

The only real plus was being very close to St. Pancras International station. I had no choice but to stay a night, and the experience was awful. The tiny rooms were old and dirty, with barely enough floor space to open luggage unless it was on the bed. There’s no elevator, and I had to haul all my bags up a really narrow staircase. The shower drain was clogged and there was no hot water. The walls were dirty, there was no hair dryer, and everything felt dated. The website photos don’t show what the hotel is actually like. Travelers should be aware.
