Doubletree by Hilton London Kensington

It's right across the road from the Underground, which is especially useful if mobility is an issue. The welcome was always warm, and the manager and staff looked after guests on the loyalty programme well. There are good restaurants on site and breakfast was excellent. The rooms are spacious, modern, clean, and remarkably quiet for the location, so clearly a lot has gone into soundproofing. The lifts feel slow, though they work fine. A fantastic hotel, well beyond Doubletree level.

Gloucester Road station is just steps away, with direct airport access and easy trips to Harrods, Hyde Park, and Buckingham Palace. Restaurants, cafés, and supermarkets are right across the street. Compared with Hampton by Hilton London City, where I also stayed, DoubleTree by Hilton Kensington was the better choice for service, room quality, and location. Our 2 Queen-Bed room for 3 pax cost around £170, which felt like good value. Israt was especially warm and attentive, helping with luggage storage, welcome cookies, and other requests. The room was clean and spacious, the bed comfortable, and the Crabtree & Evelyn bathroom amenities were a nice touch. Some furnishings need replacing: the hair dryer was worn, one outlet didn't work, and the furniture showed noticeable wear.

We had a lovely stay, and our garden-facing room was very quiet by London standards. The bed and room were bigger and more comfortable than what we usually find in Europe. Everything seemed clean and the amenities were well stocked. It was a great base for public transit around western London and getting to and from Heathrow. The room felt a bit warm to us, though we're used to much cooler temperatures, so most people would likely be fine. It was also a little dark, which seemed more about energy efficiency than poor design or upkeep. Front desk, gym, and room service staff were friendly and efficient. Prices are high and parking is tricky, but that's London, not Kansas.

The duplex gave us room to unpack, work, and slow down, which makes a long stay much easier. Its practical modern design, generous storage, and thoughtful lighting worked well, even if it doesn't aim for overt luxury. Downstairs was a calm place to sit with coffee, while the upstairs bedroom felt quiet and restful after a day in the city. Returning with my family each evening felt more like coming back to a London pied-à-terre than a hotel. Kensington is elegant without being pretentious, and cafés, museums, and transport are easy to reach on foot while the streets still feel removed from the city centre's noise. Service was warm, calm, and professional. The familiar DoubleTree welcome and cookies from the staff were a lovely touch, much appreciated by my children. The duplex apartments offer both space and atmosphere. It felt like somewhere to arrive and briefly belong in London. Guest Number 9 approves !
