Apart from the location, I can't recommend much about this place. We stayed four days in a basement room and could constantly hear people walking upstairs. The room wasn't cleaned at all, even with the clean-room sign lit up. There was just one towel for our family of four, and getting more help wasn't possible because there was no phone and reception closed at night. There was no fridge in the room or a shared one either. I was surprised by the four-star rating. To me, it felt more like a youth hostel than a proper hotel. One of the worst hotel stays of my life.

The bathroom made our six-night stay miserable. The sink was tiny and the faucet sat oddly high, so water splashed out and soaked the floor and our clothes. We had to barely turn it on, and sometimes I used the shower to avoid the splashing. I reported it the next morning. The receptionist tested it, agreed it was a problem and said it would be fixed, but there was no apology and the manner wasn't friendly. That evening it was still the same, and the only help was an extra towel for the floor. I raised it with two other staff later. All three had come to see the problem; one offered a room next to reception, which would have been very loud, and another apologized and was friendly, but neither had a solution. I don't understand why it was designed to be so unusual and unusable. On checkout day, we were almost ready at 11 and about to go downstairs when the receptionist came to our door and said we could take more time if needed. It sounded nice, but felt pressuring. We've never had hotel staff knock two minutes past checkout time. The room was very small, the bed was small too, and we heard noise from upstairs or neighbouring rooms. Don't expect drinking water, a shower cap or slippers, either, just two small sachets of shower gel and a bar of soap. We were very disappointed. It was the worst hotel we've stayed in for years, felt like a hostel rather than a so-called four-star hotel, and we definitely won't return.

Staff were attentive and kind, and we even got moved to a larger room with a sofa, a welcome place to rest after walking around the city. The bed was really comfortable, and the location was perfect, with a short walk to Paddington station for trains, buses and the Underground. It was quiet at night, so we slept well. We'd definitely stay again when we come back. Thanks again to the team!
