The price was far too high for what we got. Our room was cold, dirty, and smelled unpleasant, and the service was poor. We booked a double bedroom but were given two single beds, which felt misleading. The decor, especially the unsettling paintings, made the room feel eerie and uncomfortable. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’m not Jewish, but I came across some of the owner Danny Lambo’s social media posts and found the comments about Jewish identity concerning. The tone and content disappointed me and didn’t match the professionalism I’d expect from a business owner. Based on what I saw, I didn’t feel comfortable supporting the establishment. Others may feel differently, but I prefer to support businesses whose public communications align with my values, so I can’t recommend this place.

The room was neat, clean, and well decorated, though rather dim, with ventilation that wasn’t ideal. The bathroom reminded me of one on a plane, train, or boat. Check-in was smooth, but I wondered whether more checks would be useful, since I only had to fill in a form and wasn’t asked for a passport or ID. I also had to return the room key to reception every time I went out. It’s an exotic historic hotel with Victorian vibes. There’s no elevator, so keep that in mind with large bags or accessibility needs. The cobblestone walkway on Sussex Gardens street is tiring; if you’re coming from Paddington station, the Main Street is smoother to walk along.

The prices are hard to match anywhere else in London, and Norman at reception was great. I’d checked the mixed reviews before booking, but I found the hotel fantastic. It’s quirky in the right ways, and the old-fashioned decor feels like stepping back in time. I’d take that over a modern, very expensive Hilton-style hotel any day. Thanks, Pavillion Hotel, and thanks, Norman.

It’s cheap, clean, and close to the station, and the staff were really pleasant. The room and bed are both very small, and the bed wasn’t comfortable. If you only need somewhere inexpensive to sleep after a night out, it’s fine. With someone else or if comfort matters, it probably won’t suit you.
