The independent feel of this hotel gives it a character and care that's hard to find these days. My room had been refurbished to a high standard, and the bathroom felt modern and refined. The setting is beautiful, on a Georgian square beside Bloomsbury and very close to central London. Staff were warm and attentive. Special thanks to Sebastian for thoughtful personal recommendations and making bookings for me. The rest of his team were just as helpful. I stayed for a weekend and loved it.

The garden-side view and beautiful neighborhood made my six-night stay especially enjoyable. I was there for business, and it was surprisingly quiet given how close the University, British Museum and Oxford St are. Now and then I heard an odd noise late at night, like a gust of wind hitting the windows. Both breakfast options were delicious, and the service was very good. I got tea and coffee each day, and everything was cleaned nicely. There isn't a lift, and the stairs to the third floor were steep, but someone helped me with my luggage, which I needed. I'm especially grateful to Olu for being so kind and helpful. I loved the cozy, charming place.

We paid a lot, but this didn't feel worth the price or like a four-star hotel. The breakfast was basic and didn't taste good. It was served in the student halls from the same cafeteria as the students. The service wasn't good either. We got only one key card at check-in, and when we asked for another, we had to go back for identification even though we brought the first card. We also told staff about the room's lighting, but they didn't help. There was no ceiling light, just the one beside the bed. At night, noise from other rooms and the hallway was so loud it kept waking us, despite the advertised soundproof walls. We could hear people talking and make out their conversations. The hallway light shone into the room all night. We put a towel on the floor, but couldn't block the light coming through the gap between the door and wall, which also explains why hallway sounds carried so clearly. We were meant to have a garden view but got a street view, with no garden visible. We could have stayed in a hostel for this.

The rooms were spacious, clean and well equipped, giving us a peaceful place to rest between hospital visits. My family and I stayed at The Goodenough Hotel while visiting a friend at the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre. It was just a short walk away, which made daily visits easy and spared us stressful long commutes during a difficult time. The team was professional and welcoming from check-in to check-out. Everyone we met was courteous, helpful and understanding, and their warmth made the stay as comfortable as possible.

I liked the quiet location, within walking distance of the center's sights, though the train station was about 20 minutes away on foot. The hotel has a pretty, English feel, and I enjoyed staying here. Our clean room on the first floor was a little small, and we could hear footsteps overhead, as in many hotels. The bathroom was small but beautiful and functional, and everything worked. Breakfast wasn't included, so I can't comment on it. I wish it had been, but most four-star hotels charge separately and this one does too. I'll stay again when I'm in London. It's not a chain, and felt like a small English house. We were there in December, so I can't say how the air conditioning is.
