We used to really enjoy the Masons arms, but after today we won't be going back. Our group of eight called in hoping for coffee and food, only to be told they were doing roast dinners only and were too busy to make coffee. The younger woman was lovely, but the older one was rude and made it clear she wasn't interested in serving us. There were plenty of empty tables and three staff behind the bar. If they don't want our custom one day, they won't get it for the rest of the year.

The afternoon tea was thoroughly lovely, and the mini fish and chips were a great addition. The food and service at the hotel were both lovely. Parking in Louth can be irritating, though, since most spaces have a 30-minute maximum. That's not the hotel's fault.

We stopped in for coffee and a light lunch on 3rd October, and that part was fine. The staff member serving our table was friendly and helpful. But even though my coffee loyalty card was full, the person handling the bill insisted it would only be honoured next time we visited. Her manner felt discourteous, almost rude, over one coffee. It would put me off returning.

The food was quite good, but the whole visit felt miserable and dry, with zero customer service. There weren't any dairy-free options, and it was overpriced. When we paid £70 for two adults and a child, we weren't given an itemised receipt, so the pricing didn't feel transparent. An insular place full of insular people.
