The New Globe Inn

The barman was welcoming and friendly when we popped in for a drink. The beers were nice, and there's a small, separate room at the front that was quiet and laid-back.

We had lunch here today and found the food just right for this kind of pub. The menu is fairly basic but has enough on offer. It's a traditional town centre place with a decent choice of ales, and it isn't too glammed up.

The bus station is only a short walk away, with links to Scarborough and Whitby, which was handy. Staff were friendly, and it's a nice little town. We slept well during our comfortable stay. There was karaoke in the lively bar downstairs, but it didn't run too late. We'd definitely visit again.

I stayed one night for £36, and this is about the hotel, not the pub downstairs. I'd put it at four stars, though maybe 3.5 if peace and quiet matters a lot to you. The staff were lovely and helpful with my bike. The room was very clean, and the bedding was comfortable and soft. It's very central too. A small niggle about the cleaning: the toilet roll was on the floor instead of in its holder. There were a few drawbacks. A huge green exit sign inside the small room lit it up, so you'll definitely need an eye mask. The curtains didn't block the daylight well, the wifi wasn't working, and I never got a reply to my email about breakfast. The rooms are above the pub, so karaoke night is audible. It's also on a busy street, and the windows are poorly insulated, so traffic comes through very clearly. Noise didn't bother me too much, but you might want earplugs.
