The £18 “breakfast hamper” was pitiful: a packaged pastry, cornflakes, a juice carton, and an apple. In the morning there was no hot water, and the shower made a horrible mechanical noise. When I emailed management with photo and video evidence of the screwed-shut blind and broken shower, he refused a refund, saying we should have reported it at 3am so we could move rooms. He offered a useless 25% off a future stay instead. Other reviews make it seem like ignoring faults and blaming guests is a pattern. Save your money and book somewhere else. We booked a Duplex Suite expecting something premium, but it was a nightmare. It was unbearably hot all night, the air conditioning didn't work, and the ceiling blind was physically screwed shut, leaving us with no fresh air. We got no sleep at all.
The reception staff were especially warm and kind, always ready to help with a smile, which made the stay even better. The room was nice, clean, and very comfortable, and everything felt well cared for. I had a lovely time and would definitely stay again.
We were impressed by the dressing gowns and electric blinds, and the staff were lovely and helpful. The room was clean and tidy. We stayed one night on 20 February 2026 in a “cosy room,” just as described, and it seemed fine for a night or two. It was warm enough to make sleeping difficult because we couldn't use the air conditioning or open a window. We chose a Friday night, and street noise could be heard from our room too.
The quirky rooms and luxurious feel keep bringing us back. This was our second Manchester theatre-break stay, and the hotel seems to get better each time. The reception team are friendly and go above and beyond. It's our favourite place to stay in Manchester.
We checked out early, around 9am on Sunday, so we could find breakfast and warm up. For what was meant to be a luxury stay, Hotel Forty Seven fell short on basic comfort and service. The room was freezing, noise went on all night, and essential amenities were missing. It was a real let-down, and we won't return. There are plenty of Manchester hotels offering more comfort, space, and care for the same or less money. Some of the basics were missing or disappointing. There was no Bluetooth speaker despite it being advertised, only two coffee pods, and no champagne glasses, just red and white wine glasses. There were no extra blankets despite the cold, only one type of overly soft pillow, no USB sockets, and weak or nonexistent Wi-Fi in the room. We were given only one key, which also controlled the electricity, and one reliable TV remote. We had to swap the batteries to get it working. These are simple things to check before guests arrive. The welcome drink was only mentioned when we returned in the evening, not explained at check-in, and we still weren't sure what was included. The main problem was the temperature. The heating was locked in cold mode and couldn't be changed, so the room fell to around 14°C overnight. Reception was dismissive, with no apology or attempt to fix it. I was told I should have come down at 2am, but the problem shouldn't have been there in the first place. This felt like poor maintenance and quality control. The sofa in the living area was hard and impractical for relaxing. The lounge was petite, and the bedroom only had room for a double bed, so the suite felt cramped and disappointing for its price. Sleep was awful. External noise kept waking us, with noise from the outside bar until around 11:30pm, then partygoers, street sounds, and sirens through the night until 5am. The soundproofing was very poor. There was no cooked breakfast or hot option on site, and when I asked at check-in, they didn't suggest a hotel or local place to eat. At this price, offering no breakfast felt absurd. We'd been looking forward to the suite at Hotel Forty Seven on St Peter Street, but the stay didn't meet the premium price or the way the hotel presents itself. The location is central and handy for restaurants, bars, and shops. Check-in and bag drop were easy, our bags arrived promptly in the room, the hotel was spotless, and the large TVs were a nice way to wind down. Unfortunately, those positives were outweighed by the rest.
