We'd booked and paid for this place, but when we arrived after a four-hour drive from London, the hotel was completely closed. We'd called several times while driving and again when we got there. Eventually someone answered and told us nobody could open the door, and we'd have to find somewhere else to stay. This was a horrible experience after such a long journey. 11/11/2025 Dear Owner, My booking was made through Super.com, not Booking.com. Other reviews suggest this may have affected multiple customers. Please resolve the issue and refund all payments immediately. It's unbelievable that a hotel could take bookings and payments when guests can't even get in. This is unacceptable, and I don't think this place should operate as a hotel. If you value your time, money and sanity, do not book it.

The place had a very good ambiance, and breakfast was good, but the room heater didn't work at all during peak winter. The toilet drain wasn't working properly, so I had to wait to use the toilet. It made for an average stay.

The hotel's service was bad. I booked a room through super.com, but only found out after I paid that reception closed at 9 pm. At 7 pm I called to ask what to do if I arrived after closing, but nobody answered and there was no option to leave a voicemail. When I got there after 9 pm, I couldn't find any after hours check-in instructions. I called the number posted outside and someone finally answered, saying the whole hotel closed at 9 pm, not just reception, and nobody would answer calls. If it closed at 9, why did nobody pick up at 7? And why post a phone number if they don't want to answer it? Google should allow 0 stars.

I can't stay because check-in is only from 4 to 9 PM, and I can't arrive then. Also, there's no cancellation once you've booked, even if you discover a mistake afterwards. The owner has used this policy to take advantage of guests. Please be cautious.

The rooms were clean and the facilities were really good, and the staff were very, very friendly. I was surprised by the value for money at the Ascott, and had a good stay. The only issue was how tight the parking at the back was. It took me a while to get out, but then I parked at the front and had no trouble. Lovely stay.
