We come here fairly often when travelling between London and Cornwall, and the family room is reasonably priced. It’s a lovely independent, family-run pub, usually busy in the bar with a good crowd of locals. The menu is decent, with a couple of dinner specials and a nice range for the children. Breakfast uses good-quality produce: the continental option includes cereal, toast, a croissant, tea or coffee, and juice. For a little extra, you can get a cooked English breakfast. The wine list is nice, and we’ve always found a space in the car park. The rooms are well soundproofed, so we’ve never been disturbed by other guests. Support these businesses!

The location worked well for me, with yandles and son just down the road where I had a course. The staff were lovely, friendly, and welcoming, and the room was clean, though the shower could do with a refresh. The food was average pub fare, but the desserts were lovely. I wouldn’t say the continental breakfast was worth the price: it was cereal and one dry croissant. The full English was much better value.

A big thank you to White Hart for the delicious roast dinner and puddings for our party of 15 yesterday, Sunday. It was a special occasion, and everyone enjoyed the meal. Thanks again! xxxx

The pub itself was pleasant, the service good, and both the evening meal and breakfast were satisfactory. The room, though, was seriously disappointing. Ours was at the top of the building and felt tatty, very poor, and overpriced. Also, the pub shuts from 3pm to 5.30pm, so check-in isn’t possible before 5.30pm.

I stay here often and have always had a pleasant welcome. It’s a fabulous old building in the middle of a beautiful Somerset country village. I think I’ve tried all the rooms now; some are better than others, but they’re all comfortable. If you’re used to hotel chains, you might find the place a little old-fashioned, though to me that’s part of its charm.
