SOPHIE B.
The bar and restaurant were the real standouts for us. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere and team made both places a pleasure to spend time in. Most of the staff elsewhere were warm, welcoming and professional too, though one cleaner was a bit abrupt when asking us to come back in ten minutes to use the bathroom. It may just have been a busy morning. Our room looked as if it had once been elegant, but it now felt worn in places. The sink was cracked and its enamel peeling, there was mould on the curtains and patio doors, the bedside table was dusty, and the shower window could have been cleaned better. I’ve included photos to show what I mean. The spa was another disappointment. The hot tub was out of order for one of our two days, and although we called two days ahead, all the massage appointments were booked. The hotel may have been especially busy with racecourse guests that weekend, but we couldn’t make full use of the facilities. We were also surprised by the 12.5% service charge on all food and drink. Cocktails and wine are already expensive, and the charge is easy to miss: it appears on the menu’s storyboard pages, away from the individual prices, and staff don’t always mention it when you order. I understand a charge on a food bill, but not when just having a drink at the bar during our stay. The Vineyard has a lot going for it, though the room condition and clearer information about the charge need attention to match 5-star expectations.

We spent Saturday and Sunday morning relaxing in the spa. It wasn’t crowded, and although guests are meant to reserve two-hour slots in advance, we stayed longer and nobody seemed concerned while occupancy was low. The hotel itself has a nice mix of traditional and modern, without the faded feel some English country hotels have. Staff were pleasant, though at times they seemed young and inexperienced. Dinner was excellent. We had the tasting menu one evening, and every course was very good. The restaurant seems to be aiming for a Michelin star and, in my view, deserves one. The team were friendly, but their service wasn’t quite at the level of other fine restaurants we’ve visited.

The room was fabulous, and housekeeping had it perfectly made up whenever we returned. Dinner and the bar menu on Friday and Sunday were both high quality, beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyable. We’ve had many facials, but Bliss gave me one of the best. She was precise about the products she used, and my skin felt wonderful afterwards. Thomas the Sommelier is also excellent. His knowledge and enthusiasm are obvious, and he never felt like an “up seller.” We’ve enjoyed the wines he’s suggested, so don’t hesitate to ask his advice. Anton warmly welcomed our visiting dog friends, who loved the water bowls and doggy treats. That care reflects the whole team. The staff were, as always, charming, quietly attentive and professional, and everyone seems committed to giving guests a great experience. A big thank you to all at The Vineyard for adding to our special memories of this beautiful hotel and spa.

Thomas, the sommelier, took such good care of us and helped us choose a wine from the 65-page list. He really knows his subject. We came to The Vineyard for one night to celebrate my birthday, and the tasting room experience was an incredible food journey, with food from Michelin star. The hotel is beautiful, and everything from the design to the extremely professional staff felt worthy of its 5 stars. Thanks to everyone there. We’ll definitely return for another special occasion. 💯💯

For my partner’s birthday, the team went above and beyond. Concierge John was welcoming and knew a lot about the place, and every staff member we passed wished us a good morning, afternoon or evening. It made us feel really special. The room was stunning, the location beautiful, and the bath was next level. I also had the best massage and facial I’ve had to date. The complimentary toiletries smelled lovely and suited my sensitive skin. This is definitely somewhere we’d recommend staying.
