Whitewater Spa & Leisure Club

The pool, sauna and jacuzzi were lovely, especially with only a few other people around when we arrived at 10am on a midweek morning. My daughter and I had a spa day at this beautiful hotel, followed by afternoon tea. We both had relaxing hot stone back massages, then were unexpectedly offered another dip in the open-air jacuzzi on the terrace, overlooking the river under a blue sky. The friendly, helpful staff then took us across the road to the main hotel for delicious afternoon tea. Such an enjoyable day.

The room was huge, spotless and at a comfortable temperature, with a comfy bed. I also found plenty of parking when I arrived, and check-in was quick and efficient. After I rang late in the day to ask when the pool closed, the receptionist was polite and helpful. The reception staff welcomed me, and since I planned to leave before breakfast, they offered a free packed lunch to pick up from reception in the morning. The leisure club staff were welcoming too. The pool was a bit chilly, so I had to swim harder and faster to warm up, but the steam room afterwards was amazing. The clean loungers were neatly arranged around the pool. I booked at the last minute for a very reasonable price through Booking.com, and really can't fault the stay. A fantastic find, highly recommended, and I'll definitely use it again. Christmas lunch was beautifully presented and served, and having the spa open on Christmas Day was an extra treat. The whole stay at Whitewater Hotel and spa felt relaxed and wonderful, from beginning to end. Even during what was clearly a very busy period, the friendly staff kept smiling, helped everyone and went the extra mile. They even tidied and made up our room while we were at Christmas lunch, a lovely little touch. The staff are a real credit to the team. Thanks for a wonderful Christmas. We slept well, and the river-side location is great, but sadly we won't be returning. The large room had a comfortable bed and a nice bathroom, though it felt a little dated and could use modernising. Staff were friendly enough, and the cascade spa and pool were well equipped. The restaurant meal wasn't good enough, and the manager waived the bill for us and two other diners because of the problems. Breakfast the next morning also lacked taste. We saw a staff member pick up a ban-Marie lid after it had fallen on the floor, then use it to cover the food again. This could be an amazing hotel, but the kitchen needs to be managed effectively and staff need training in food hygiene best practice.
