Wroxton House Hotel

Dinner is always hot, tasty, and generous, and the team are consistently friendly and helpful. I’ve stayed here regularly for the past 3½ years, and the improvements have made each visit better. The rooms are clean and really comfortable. Tina and Irina deserve a special mention for making me feel so welcome every time. I’d happily recommend staying here.

Breakfast was a real highlight, with an appealing little continental selection and hot dishes cooked to order. It was a nice change from the usual chain food while travelling. We had a good time here: the staff were all very friendly, and the food was good. The room was fine, maybe a bit worn around the edges, but nothing bad. The bed had a slightly strange ridge, yet it was really comfortable.

The bar closes disappointingly early on Saturday, so there’s no chance to sit around with relatives. The night porter can’t staff it, presumably because of licensing agreements. We’ve stayed a few times and still find it a pleasant hotel, with clean, nicely furnished rooms. The food is pleasant, though nothing special, and I remember it being better on earlier visits. In room 24, the toilet sometimes got stuck running and wouldn’t refill. I do feel the quality has slipped a little over the years. There isn’t much to complain about and I’d still recommend a visit and stay again, but I hope things improve rather than decline further.

Wroxton itself is very quiet, with little to do, but Banbury is only a 10-minute drive away, and the hotel makes a good base for exploring the pretty Cotswold villages. We stayed for a weekend in an executive twin room. The hotel was lovely, absolutely faultless, with a large car park, well-kept gardens and flowers, and friendly, helpful staff. The food was delicious. We had breakfast both days, with plenty of continental and cooked options, and dinner on the first night was to a very good standard.
