Royal Hotel

We stayed two nights. The hotel looks great from outside, is very central, and has friendly staff and great food. The room was very stuffy, though, and mine sloped so everything leaned towards the door. It made me feel like I was on a boat. The lift was small and slow, and there was a loose board on a stair.

I needed somewhere quickly for the night and got a cheap room in a great location. The receptionist last Tuesday was great too.

There was no ventilation at all because the window wouldn’t open. They brought a fan when I asked, and someone came to open the window the next day. The bathroom was tiny and awkward to move around in, and the lift seemed to have a mind of its own. The carpet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned or replaced in a long time. Not pleasant.

The staff were lovely, friendly, and helpful, and I’ll stay here again on my next visit to Oban. Love the Royal!! We ate dinner in the bar on our second night. I had the Sunday roast, but it came without roast potatoes and they’d run out of mint sauce for the lamb, so I was disappointed. The room was clean and comfortable, with what looked like a newly refurbished bathroom. It was adequate, but the sea view only worked if I stood on the chair under the window. We were on the 5th floor in the turret, where the windows were very high, and I’m 5'3".
