There were some real positives: friendly staff, a lovely view, an excellent shower, and a very nice dinner on our second night. But we slept badly both nights, and when problems came up, they didn’t seem to get resolved. In room 5, a big floodlight outside shone around the edges of the blinds and made the room far too bright. Around midnight an alarm sounded for about 10 minutes, paused briefly, then started again. I went to reception, but nobody was there. The doors also creaked and squeaked loudly enough to hear from our room. I told reception about the light the next morning and asked if anything could be done, but nothing seemed to change. Breakfast on the second morning was okay, though the coffee was a let-down. We were told the gas hob wasn’t working, so the choices were limited, and the coffee was instant. They said proper coffee wasn’t possible because they were short staffed. After two poor nights’ sleep, that wasn’t ideal. The hotel has good foundations, including nice staff, good food, lovely views, and a powerful shower. It needs to be more proactive when things go wrong, because the problems seemed to be accepted rather than dealt with.

The Glue Pot Bar is such a cosy, friendly place to unwind, with a good choice of drinks. It’s one of the things that makes The Oyster Hotel special. We’ve been four or five times this year, and each visit has been great from start to finish. The food is always amazing, the prices feel fair for the quality, and the welcoming atmosphere makes the four-hour drive worth it every time. Peter, the manager, deserves a special mention. He’s friendly and professional, always goes above and beyond, and makes us feel nothing is too much trouble. We travel a lot and have stayed in many hotels, but he’s the best manager we’ve come across. We’re gutted to hear dogs won’t be allowed next year under the new ownership, since that was a big part of what made our stays so perfect. We’re grateful for all the lovely memories, and this place will always mean a lot to us. ❤️🐾

I had one of the new rooms with a picture window and balcony facing the water, and the view was amazing. A really nice room, lovely staff, and excellent food. Great place to stay and eat.

The room was spotless and comfortable, and we had a great view. Staff were friendly and the food was excellent. The bathroom was insanely warm, which was the one downside, but it wouldn’t stop us coming back. I’d recommend the Balmoral chicken at dinner, so good!

The Oyster Inn had two ground floor rooms with easy access, just what we needed for meeting family for a night between Christmas and New Year. The rooms were perfect and had everything we required. Both our evening meal and breakfast were superbly cooked and beautifully presented. A huge thank you to the staff, you’re a fabulous team. 10/10.
