We booked the dine and stay deal for our son’s birthday, and they had a great time from beginning to end. We met them for lunch the next day: the food was amazing, beautifully presented, good value and served in generous portions. Tommy the chef was so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. It’s a great base for a Dartmoor walk, with lunch back at the pub afterwards. Looking forward to going again.

We liked it so much we added an extra night, and the team made changing rooms easy. We were lucky to get to try two of the six charming rooms. The warm welcome and lovely atmosphere had us feeling at home straight away, right on the edge of Dartmoor. We tried the main menu on our second evening, and both main courses were delicious and beautifully presented. I rarely have dessert, but the poached rhubarb with blondie and custard got me. I’m told the crumble was excellent too. Head Chef Tommy and the kitchen team seem well on their way to making this a destination pub, if it isn’t already. A very generous breakfast hamper was left at the door, and those croissants seemed fresh from the Boulangerie! Thank you to everyone at Bearslake for such a memorable, welcoming stay. Don’t overlook this little gem. We’ll definitely be back.

We’d booked dinner for six, then our group of friends from the Ten Tors weekend suddenly grew to twelve. Munro went above and beyond to look after all of us, nothing felt like too much trouble. The burgers and truffle fries were a big hit, and the rest of the menu had plenty of tasty choices too. Such a fun evening, with a great atmosphere and wonderful service. We’ll definitely return.

After a day walking in Dartmoor, we had a really enjoyable stay at this characterful old thatched inn. It feels like stepping back in time, which I loved. Dinner was excellent: I had the venison burger with truffle fries, with a generous amount of parmesan that tasted fantastic. Four drinks, two starters and two mains came to around £80, which seemed very good value. The staff were friendly and helpful, everywhere was clean, and the bar’s card games made for a relaxed evening. There was free parking, and it was so quiet overnight that I slept very well. The bathroom was great too, with strong water pressure and just the right temperature. I couldn’t get Wi-Fi signal in my room. Out in the countryside it didn’t feel like a major problem, though. We’d definitely stay again.
