The George Hotel

We’ve been in Okehampton for over a year, searching for our local, and I think we’ve found it. The pub feels welcoming, with locals, families and, best of all, dogs around. We had lunch on Thursday, chicken chilli wrap for me and a steak sandwich for my husband, both excellent. We came back for dinner last night and enjoyed that just as much. The staff are friendly and helpful, especially the busy girl behind the bar who also serves and is always willing to help.

The Chef helped arrange a menu without onion or garlic, which I can't tolerate after major surgery, before our recent evening meal at The George. That made the whole visit stress free and really enjoyable. Everyone in our party had a fabulous meal, and the service was second to none. We’ll definitely be back.

The staff were wonderful when we held a wake there during our stay after my mum’s funeral. They arranged everything the way we wanted, including the photo boards, and the food was excellent. Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed, with staff happy to provide any extras. I’d highly recommend the George Inn and would stay again when visiting family.

The rooms are amazing, and the housekeepers do a brilliant job with the details. We also ate in the restaurant and the food tasted great. The service was another story. The blonde lady working at the bar, who I think was the manager or bar manager, was rude whenever I asked something or just ignored me. I waited ten minutes for my drink while she was busy flirting with men at the bar. I won’t be back to the pub. The manager needs to train the bar manager to treat customers with more kindness and compassion.
