We had a really lovely, relaxing afternoon tea at The George Hotel in Wallingford for our mum’s birthday. The quiet, calm setting was just right for a special occasion, and we never felt rushed or crowded. The tea was nicely presented and beautifully decorated, with everything looking fresh and inviting. Service was friendly and efficient throughout, and we felt very well looked after. A lovely spot for a birthday treat or a peaceful afternoon. We’d happily return.

We stopped in on Sunday for a drink and dessert, and ended up paying over £21 for a pint of milk for the kid, tea with milk, a pint of lager, and sticky toffee pudding. The sponge was okay, but the toffee was curdled and sticky. The two scoops of ice cream looked like they’d thawed and been refrozen, with marks from refreezing. Really disgusting. On top of that, there was a mouldy smell behind the corner of the sofa. Thanks, but no thanks.

The beer from Amwell Springs was decent. But I waited five minutes to be served by a large, tattooed barmaid who chose to have a cigarette instead of serving customers. I won’t be using this bar again.

The pub has a cosy atmosphere and is laid out very well, with polite, helpful staff. We enjoyed a tasty pot of tea for two. It’s also near the Thames and Wallingford Castle, and has an interesting history.

Breakfast was huge and delicious, and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. I’ve just come back from a wonderful weekend at The George hotel as part of a large wedding party. My room was lovely, with a gorgeous bathroom and everything I needed. It was so warm and humid that the fan was a really thoughtful touch ❤️ I’d definitely stay again. Thank you!!
