Marine Hotel Paignton

It’s a good base for exploring the local area, right on the seafront, with good service and a good breakfast. The nightly entertainment is okay. The hotel feels a little dated, and WiFi is only available in the bar area. Parking is tight, with limited spaces for a hotel of this size. The shower cubicle is small, so a larger person might struggle.

We’ll definitely return for our third visit. The hotel is lovely, the staff are friendly, and the food tastes good, though the portions are small. They have a singer on weekends, and the price is great.

The hotel’s first impression put me off. It could do with a facelift and a fresh coat of paint. Breakfast was disappointing too, with mushrooms and hash browns missing from the full English. The programme said there would be quizzes, but none took place. Some areas of the room were dusty, there was no chef’s special at dinner, and we weren’t given a feedback sheet at the end of the holiday. I won’t return, and some other people feel the same. It wasn’t worth the money.

We stayed over the August bank holiday weekend and had a pleasant experience. The hotel is very clean throughout, and our room was spacious, quiet, and clean. We couldn’t hear anything from the other rooms. Breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly and respectful. The place is 50m from the beach, with restaurants, amusement parks, and the city centre close by. There’s parking on site too. You get a lot for your money in an excellent location, and we’ll return. I’d recommend it. If you expect a Michelin star restaurant, you’ll need to book somewhere five times more expensive. Don’t believe the negative reviews here. People need to get a grip.
