The cottage itself was clean and lovely, and the location was decent, around a 10-minute drive from Portree. Without a car it would be difficult, since you’d need taxis everywhere and those aren’t always easy to get. The app was great and seemed to have all the stay information we needed. But we visited during a heat wave, and it was like an oven inside. There were no fans, and opening the windows meant getting swarmed by bugs, so we could barely sleep from the heat. We tried reaching the property managers several ways, twice by text, once by phone and once by email, to ask about fans, but heard nothing. As someone who works in travel, I find it unacceptable to ignore guests. Even if the accommodation were the best ever, I couldn’t recommend it after getting no response. I’m glad the problem was only the heat and not something more serious, because we couldn’t get hold of the owners. Not being able to reach them is still a major issue. If nothing goes wrong, it’s fine, but if you need help, it can be a big problem.

We enjoyed our stay, and the kids loved it. Loch Eyre Cottage has lovely bay views, and sunsets you can watch from the lounge. It’s close enough to Portree, but far enough out to feel away from town, and it was very quiet at night. The rooms were tidy and clean, with towels and bedsheets provided, plus hand sanitiser in the hall and soap in the bathroom. Broadband and Wi-Fi were fast. A few small maintenance jobs stood out, including a missing bathroom handle and a couple of other minor things. The lounge barcode no longer worked. TV channels were limited because it relies on terrestrial services, so streaming options like iPlayer and 4oD would have been nice. We’d come back. Thanks.
It’s a charming little cottage, but very small. Four of us were cramped in the kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the internet was very good. When we arrived, there was a tray of burnt chips left in the oven, which makes their claim that the place was COVID-secure and sanitised questionable.
Everything was clean and tidy, with all the things we needed. We were even told we could leave the alcohol bottles there and they’d dispose of them.
Quiet, clean and fully equipped, with an exceptional view. Getting there was easy.
