Antrim House

The location is fantastic, right in the centre of town. Janice greeted me and was very friendly, and it was a pleasure chatting with her. I stayed in the original house, in a really good-sized bedroom and bathroom. Everything was clean and nicely decorated.

The room itself was modern, clean and perfect, but my experience with Janice, the owner of Antrim house, really spoiled the visit. I was there with a family member to celebrate my 21st birthday. My younger sister and her friend had booked their own B&B across from the train station, and came to spend a couple of hours with us. Less than five minutes after they reached our room, Janice called to ask whether I’d changed my booking to include more guests. I explained they weren’t staying with us and had their own place. She asked if they were in the hot tub with us. When I said yes, she rudely told me it wasn’t a public bath and they had to collect their things and leave immediately. The call was very unpleasant, and I didn’t understand her attitude. I would understand a no-visitors rule if Antrim house had told me about it, but I was never sent any rules saying that, and Janice didn’t describe it as a policy during the call either. I also don’t know how she knew there were visitors in our room. I can only conclude there may be CCTV in the rooms, which would be extremely inappropriate, especially with a hot tub where we were wearing bikinis. After my sister and her friend left, we felt paranoid that there might be cameras in the room, and it put a real downer on my 21st birthday.

After a few weeks of travelling, staying here was a welcome, stress-free break. Janice was such a warm and friendly host. The bedroom was lovely, with a spacious bathroom and living room, and there’s a hot tub on the balcony. Outside, there’s seating where you can have breakfast, coffee or a nightcap. I’d give it more than five stars if I could. Don’t hesitate to add Antrim House to your next holiday.

There’s a choice of single rooms, doubles and suites, and breakfast is included. The atmosphere is nice, the staff are friendly, and the location is good. Parking is available too. The single room is small, though, and the price felt quite high: around Rs 11500, or about £100, for one day.
