Malmaison Reading

I've stayed at Malmaison Reading several times and have had a consistently good experience. The rooms I've tried have all been spacious, very comfortable and immaculately clean, with housekeeping clearly paying close attention to detail. The staff are professional, welcoming and efficient, so check-in and the rest of the stay go smoothly. The central location makes it easy to get to transport, shops and local attractions. The restaurant serves decent, well-prepared food, convenient as well as good quality. I highly recommend it and will keep coming back.

I booked a suite, which was basically a large room with a sofa and coffee table. There was hardly any room for clothes, and putting makeup on was difficult in the dim light. It was very dark, with one tiny window, and the bedside light was broken.

Breakfast was lovely, and the decor had the dark, seedy Malmaison look you'd expect. The staff I dealt with were a mixed bunch: nobody was rude, but they weren't especially friendly either. The main issue was the room's aircon. It was noisy even when switched off. I reported it as I was leaving.

We came in for breakfast on Saturday morning as non-residents and had a great experience. The continental spread was really nice, and the cooked dishes were well presented and tasty. We had the full English breakfast and Eggs Benedict. Front of house staff were friendly and professional. I'd come back and recommend it if you're after a hotel-style breakfast.
