Travelodge Reading Central

The location is fine for an overnight stay during the working week, but the facilities were poor, dated and frankly unwelcoming. I've stayed at other Travelodge Hotels before, and this one falls well below the group's already mediocre standard. I used it for work trips, but won't stay here again. I know you get what you pay for, but I'd still expect some basic care, comfort and reliable cleanliness.

The heating works very well, comes on quickly when adjusted and stays warm for a long time. Rooms are spacious, and the receptionists are friendly and attentive. It's also close to the high street, so shops are easy to reach. But the hotel and bathroom are dated, and my bathroom wasn't clean. Towels already had stains when I arrived. Noise was a constant issue: loud TVs late at night, people talking in the corridors, creaky doors that woke me up, and thin walls that let me hear the rooms next door. At checkout, cleaners knocked right at 12 PM to remind me to leave. Given how poor the cleaning seemed, that pushiness made me wonder what they were doing. The pillows were hard and the bed wasn't comfortable either. I'd look for somewhere else in Reading.

The location is great, but this Travelodge really needs updating. The design is too dated, the carpets are old and worn, and unlike other Travelodges there isn't a charging point by the bed.

Breakfast was included in my room rate, but I hadn't read the small print and was disappointed to get a 'breakfast to go'. The room itself was tired, with chipped furniture and damaged skirting coming away from the wall. The bathroom was worn and dated, and the shower in room 301 didn't work. I reported it, but got the feeling no one would fix it. The man at the front desk didn't even write it down.
