We had a fabulous suite right in the heart of Richmond, close to the Market square and the Castle. Breakfast was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, even though it was far too short. Would recommend.

I slept really well in a comfortable, quiet room, and check-in was easy. The staff were very friendly. The room was spotless, which is a bonus in a property this old, and it had tea, coffee and wonderful biscuits. The wine at check-in was a lovely touch too. Some parts looked a little tired, but in a cosy, homely way that made me feel comfortable.

I loved the character of the old building, especially its wonky floors and beautiful old wooden furniture. The room was well equipped and had an efficient shower. Breakfast was excellent: I had porridge and my partner chose a full English. It’s right in the heart of Richmond.

Breakfast was a real highlight. There’s plenty to choose from, including fresh fruit, cereals, porridge, juice, a full English, toast, jams, tea and coffee. You fill in your order the night before and choose a time, so the staff can cook it fresh and serve it hot. The bed was very comfortable, and we had a good night’s sleep with no noise from people passing our room. The room was quirky but clean and tidy, and the age of the building adds to its charm and character. We were warmly welcomed with a complimentary drink, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We booked Castle House because it’s handy for Richmond centre. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back next time we’re in town.

The location is great for exploring Richmond on foot, and the bed was clean with a bathroom that did the job. The welcome was pleasant enough, but we barely saw any staff again until breakfast. The meal was brought out in a rush and cleared away even faster. The building and rooms feel tired and dated, with antiques scattered around to give a quaint impression. The rooms need a proper freshening up. For the price, I expected comfort, opulence and standout hospitality, but this was a less than mediocre stay. There’s no luxury here apart from the price.
