We eventually had to ask for a refund and leave. When we returned around midnight, the room smelled of cleaning chemicals over an underlying vomit odor. We were far from home and had come for the tribute night, so we’d hoped to put up with it for one night. The staff who came to the room said they couldn’t smell vomit, only the products used on the floor. Another staff member agreed that the soiled scatter cushion and bed throw shouldn’t have been left on the bed. The anniversary stay started with an ordinary check-in, but our room smelled of vomit. There was a dirty, crusty residue on the desk nearby, and the floor was wet and smelled bad. My partner told the manager, who said the hotel was full and there were no other rooms. We were assured housekeeping would clean while we enjoyed the evening. Two hours later the smell was still there. The housekeeper wiped the desk and sprayed the carpet, then wiped it with a hotel towel. It didn’t seem thorough, though I hoped it might get rid of the acrid smell. I was also shocked to see the same kind of guest towel and spray used to clean a toilet cubicle floor downstairs near reception. I don’t think a guest towel should be used on the carpet, let alone for both jobs. I’ve never experienced anything like it at another hotel. This place is dirty and standards are poor. If you do have to stay, take your own towels. The owners need a proper carpet cleaner and mops for the toilets. An anniversary to remember for all the wrong reasons.

We had a great one-night stay, with a comfortable room, tasty food and a really nice atmosphere. The location is lovely too, with a canal walk nearby and rolling scenery that makes you forget you’re on the outskirts of Manchester. We also had dinner, breakfast and use of the spa. Parag at the front desk was super friendly and helpful with all our questions, and the spa staff did a good job explaining the facilities.

I’ve been coming back for three years and always have a pleasant stay. The views are stunning all year, and watching the sunset from the hydrapool makes every visit worthwhile. The rooms are clean, spacious and well heated, and the hotel caters for all your needs. The staff are friendly and professional, always ready to help. Deputy manager Mohammed is especially polite, kind, caring and considerate with me and other guests. His hospitality is one reason Norton Grange Hotel is always my first choice, since I know we’ll be welcomed warmly. Atif the manager is lovely and helpful too. Breakfast was good, and Carol was amazing, such a bubbly bundle of joy even first thing in the morning. Her positive attitude makes the day more enjoyable. I’ll keep recommending the hotel to family and friends.

We’ve stayed here twice and have been pleased with this quiet, cozy hotel in a picturesque spot. The pool with loungers is lovely, and there’s a good choice of steam rooms and jacuzzis. Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful time. There are a few spa drawbacks. The tiles in the steam room area are very moldy, and the outdoor jacuzzi sometimes doesn’t keep the water warm enough. The spa reception staff aren’t always friendly or accommodating.

The food was some of the best I’ve had, better than at most restaurants we’ve visited. We wondered if the deal might mean they’d cut back on food quality, but it was amazing. The spa was lovely and every member of staff gave top-notch service. The whole hotel looked and smelled spotlessly clean. We booked the Lazy Sunday deal, which included breakfast, dinner, a one-night stay and access to the spa and leisure facilities. We loved every second and would love to come back soon.
