Shillingford Bridge hotel

What a stunning place, we’re definitely coming back. The food and staff were fantastic, with loads of choice on the menu. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.

The setting right by the river is beautiful, and the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout. Breakfast was delicious and nicely presented, and they put in an extra bed without any fuss. We were on the ground floor, where the French doors opened onto the car park. That was fine, though there were no net curtains, so people outside could see right into our room. I’d read that the rooms needed updating, and they were clean and perfectly fine for me. I can understand that other guests might not like the work carpets and dated curtains. Thanks for a lovely stay, we’ll be back!

I’m amazed by how good dinner was tonight. The pork belly was magnificent, with the meat and crackling both just right. Before that, I had the smoked duck and peach salad, which was superb. This felt worthy of a four star, maybe even five star, establishment.

We had Sunday lunch with friends, and all three courses were delicious, tasty and served on hot plates, which helped keep the food warm. The riverside setting is great, and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful.
