The location was good, and there was a ramp for people who have difficulty walking. The food was above average, and the patio out front was nice for people watching, though it’s expensive. Service was excellent. The lift is very small, and the floors aren’t level: one slopes down towards the front window. I think the front and back parts of the building are from different periods.

We stayed for three nights in a good sized first floor seafront suite, with a large bow window and an en suite bathroom. The sea views were unobstructed, stretching along the esplanade towards hills in both directions. The town centre and shops are just around the corner. The staff were excellent, charming and helpful, and nothing seemed like a problem for them. We had both breakfast and dinner, and the food was superb.

Lunch on the terrace was very expensive for what felt like cheap food. I asked for fresh orange and lemonade without ice, but got a pint of soda water with a slice of orange in it and lemon on top. The cod and fries with salad were what I ordered, but as an ex-chef, it seemed to me the fish had come from the freezer, not been fresh. The sliced bread and butter was the cheapest white bread you could buy. I will not be going back.

We had a lovely couple of nights at the Riviera. The sea view from our beautiful room was great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Delicious food, too, and a brilliant seafront location. Rachel gave me a massage that was a real treat. She was very sensitive and intuitive, and it helped make the stay even more relaxing. Highly recommend her.

Our room had a wonderful sea view, and both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The wine list has a good range of styles, regions and prices to suit different tastes. Staff were efficient and helpful, and the hotel was immaculately clean, with excellent quality tablecloths and silverware. A faultless stay at a lovely Regency hotel on the esplanade. I can’t recommend it too highly.
