The Swan Inn

I stopped here for one night on a work trip. The room was lovely, modern, and very clean, and the people at the bar made me feel welcome when I went for a couple of drinks. Lovely people! I'll definitely book again on my next trip to Southampton. 10/10. Paul 👍🏻

A good one-night stay before a cruise from Southampton. The location is very good for cruising, and the rooms are clean but basic. There is no food on site, though the garage opposite has a Costa coffee. Our room had a bathroom, but not all rooms do, so book early and ask for one if cruising. The train line is at the back, but it's quiet. Trains stop around 10-11 at night and start about 5ish. The car park only fits about six cars. I'd use the two nearest spaces, even though they're at a funny angle, because the camera is close. Remember, there's a toll for the bridge.

Really nice place, but companies recommending places to stay need to keep their information updated, perhaps with a last-updated date. One site listed dining in, but the person who gave me the keys said The Swan restaurant had been closed for 12 years.

The room itself was okay, but there was a big gap under the door, so anyone could hear into it. The same key opened both the room door and the gate, which made me wonder if every room has the same lock. That didn't feel safe. The fire alarm went off late at night, and staff took a while to arrive and handle it because nobody was on the premises. It sounded again at 12:30am and kept going for at least an hour. Police and fire engines were called around 1/1:30am. Staff are hard to reach when you need them.
