That broken sixth-floor door made the stay feel unsafe. It wouldn't shut, so anyone from outside could get onto the floor. At 7am, I woke to someone trying to kick in a room door a couple of doors away. They were shouting for around half an hour before reception came up and removed them. I reported the broken door and was told it would be repaired later that day, but a day later it was still broken. The hotel showed no regard for guests' safety, and the place felt rough. We were there as a family to celebrate my grandad's birthday and had about six rooms. Every one of us had trouble getting into our room at some point. The key card took about ten tries for some of us, and a few had to go back to reception because the door wouldn't open at all. The rooms were dusty and poorly cleaned, and some bedding had stains. Do not stay here.
I doubt I'll stay here again. I want to feel safe as a guest, and the location doesn't reassure me. The parking was dreadful too: I was told to leave the car outside near a bus stop. I've stayed a couple of times because the hotel allows dogs, but the rooms feel dismal and uncomfortable, and in my opinion the quality is poor. We've used the accessible rooms because my wife is disabled; on our last visit, the toilet guard was loose on the wall. I find Travelodge a cheap, low-grade hotel with poor service.
The bathroom was the main issue. The extractor fan didn't work, so puddles formed, and there was no non-slip mat in the shower, or it didn't help, because I nearly slipped. There was some noise too, and the soundproofing isn't great. The service was really good, though, and the room was alright for one night. At £35, it was okay.
The location is a real plus. Morrisons is behind the hotel, Southport's best shops and the famous arcades are right nearby, and there's a Wethies about a two-minute walk away for cheap beer and food. If you're interested in local history, the frontage is from the old Lord Street railway station, which closed in 1952. I use a hotel just to rest my head, and this place does what it says on the tin. It's clean, the staff are friendly, and I like that rooms are only serviced after six days unless you ask. Tags on the door handle let me set the schedule, so I'm not bothered by housekeeping every day. Room 510 was typically gloomy, though. The windows look straight at a wall, and the lighting is poor.
It was my first night here, and everything went really well. Clean room, professional and friendly staff. Definitely good value for money, and I'd happily stay again.
