Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa

The kids had a brilliant time, with a teepee the housekeepers made in our Old Course suite and teddy bears they gave them. We also had fun at the pool, the Aquarium and around St Andrews. Breakfast and dinner at the Road Hole were superb, room service was excellent, and Alexandra at breakfast was so friendly and happy to help with anything. We stayed with family just before Christmas and had our most enjoyable visit yet. The small updates to the suites and bar/restaurant have improved the look. My only thought for families is a little kids' area like the Den at Gleneagles. Done well, that could be a game changer. We had a great stay.

The festive menu at the Road Hole restaurant had limited variety, and the food definitely wasn't up to a high standard. We've had wonderful Christmases at Gleneagles Hotel, the Intercontinental The George in Edinburgh, and even the Fairmont Hotel st Andrews, with varied menus and amazing food. We booked our Christmas months ahead, but reservations for Christmas dinner weren't available yet. In the email exchanges, David assured us we'd have our Christmas dinner at the Swilken Loft restaurant. Then, on the 25th of December, reception told us we wouldn't get Christmas lunch or dinner. The receptionist said we didn't qualify because we'd booked through the hotel's I Prefer Member Rate, without apologizing, and had the nerve to say at least we'd saved money. What a load of garbage. I twice spoke to reception about it, and they seemed to think it was a joke. I don't expect an apology from management. I have to rewrite this review and don't know why, but the Christmas experience 2025 at the Old Course Hotel gets 0 stars from me. The worst Christmas!

We were just a short walk from the centre of St Andrews and the beach, and the spa was lovely, free for guests outside peak hours. Breakfast had a great selection. Our room was beautiful with a lovely view over one of the world's top golf courses. Spectacular hotel, it really exceeded expectations. Thanks for a great break.

Cameron at the Swilcan resto made dinner at the bar a real highlight of our trip, and Anita looked after us so well at breakfast. My friend and I also had amazing good and wine in the Jigger. The staff were all amazing, and the spa was fab. Truly excellent, and we've already got a return trip to the hotel on the cards!
