It’s about a 25-minute drive from Stena Line at Fishguard, and the hotel sits on the edge of St David’s. The city is tiny, more like a village, but lovely, with an impressive cathedral. I’ve stayed here a few times and keep finding the staff welcoming and helpful. Conor especially has an incredible memory. The modern, air-conditioned rooms are comfortable, and I think the Premier Plus upgrade is worth the extra cost for the fridge, bottled water and little chocolate bars. There’s lots of parking, just remember to register your vehicle so you don’t get an unexpected charge in the post. The 24-hour reception also makes a late check-in easy. One of the better Premier Inns, in my experience.

We only came in for breakfast, not to stay at the hotel. The food itself was fine, but the service fell short of what we’ve come to expect at other Premier Inn locations. The restaurant was packed and there didn’t seem to be enough staff for the number of people, so we waited around 10-15 minutes for food. More staff during busy times, especially school holidays and public holiday weeks, could help avoid those delays.

I stayed for two nights and got the good night’s sleep I came to Premier Inn for. The bed was really comfortable, with a great mattress, pillows and bedding. The place has been here four years but looks more like it opened four months ago, and it’s a credit to the staff as well as PI. I didn’t eat, though the bar drinks were reasonably priced, especially the deals. Iestyn deserves a mention too, very focused on customers and able to turn his hand to everything. People like him bring these hotel chains to life. Premier Inn is the UK’s largest budget hotel chain.

The main drawback for me was the location: it’s a bit of a walk into the city centre, and the new building can feel isolated and clinical, without much sense of being in St David’s. I also found it frustrating that the window can’t be opened at all, even a little, though the air con and heating worked well. Still, the rooms are big, clean, warm and comfortable, with very comfy beds and pillows, and good value, especially at the low rates in early November. Breakfast was excellent, either cooked to order or buffet style, with good quality ingredients and nothing greasy or gloopy. The staff were friendly and approachable, and there’s plenty of parking. This was my first stay at the Premier Inn here, after using older hotels closer to the centre before. All told, a great place, and it ought to push some of the local hotels to improve.

We enjoyed our stay, and the staff were kind and helpful throughout. The room was neat and clean, and the bathroom spotless. Breakfast was average for us, and we often had to ask for refills.
