The Breadalbane Arms Hotel

The reception lady was friendly and showed me around, and there was private parking behind the building. It’s a basic hotel right in central Aberfeldy. My room was small, but fine for one night, with its own bathroom, soap and towels. Everything looked clean, and both the heating and Wi-Fi worked. The real problem was check-in: just 4pm to 7pm, then the doors are locked. Three hours is a very short window. A self check-in option would help.

We had a confirmed booking and had already paid, but after reaching the hotel at 9:00 PM following a long, exhausting hike, we found it shut. There was no staff member there and no way into the property. We called the listed number several times and couldn’t get help, so we were left outside with nowhere to go. After a day on the trail, being effectively left on the street at night was extremely stressful and unacceptable. A hotel should provide the accommodation guests have paid for, and in our case it completely failed at that basic responsibility. It’s unbelievable to take payment and confirm a reservation without any way to check in or reach someone for assistance. I’d advise people to stay elsewhere unless they’re willing to risk being locked out with no support.

No breakfast or meals are available, though that didn’t bother me. The comfortable, clean rooms were good value, and the place spared me a miserable night in my roof tent during a storm.

For this price, the facilities were the worst and the room was tiny. The bathroom was very cramped, even for my 4 yr old boy, and the shower didn’t work properly. There was no carpet and no water bottle. They did provide a kettle, coffee powder and sugar 😂, so I guess we’re meant to use toilet tap water for coffee 😜. I don’t recommend it.
