The worst part was the management’s lack of communication and accountability, but the room itself was also poor: not clean enough, and several things didn’t work. I booked online at short notice after my plans changed. Booking.com made it look fine, but the hotel felt worn out when I arrived. The staff were friendly and seemed to be trying, though they also looked a bit desperate, as if the business was failing. The restaurant was nearly empty whenever I passed and was dark and closed by 9pm on Saturday. My “executive room” was dark and cramped, with a view of a brick wall in a small alley. It needed a deep clean. There was years’ worth of grime in the bathroom and on the walls, and the carpet and curtains smelled of cigarette smoke. I couldn’t get hot water in the shower. I assume the mixer was broken. Even turned all the way to hot, the water was only lukewarm, so after a long journey I had to take showers that left me shivering. I reported it at reception, and they said they’d fix it after the first night. They didn’t, and they didn’t offer me another room. I asked for a partial refund, which seemed fair in the circumstances, and was told to email the manager. I’ve emailed twice and haven’t even had a reply. I can’t recommend the place. The Swan, across the road by the river, looked bright and cheerful and was busier all weekend. I wish I’d stayed there instead.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was lovely. The dining room, though clean, looked a bit shabby and tired. Our room was clean and a decent size, and the price was on the lower side. It’s well located, but the windows faced The Swan Pub, which stayed noisy quite late.

Thorpe Park is only about two minutes away, and the hotel includes parking and breakfast. I skipped the breakfast because I felt really hungover, so I can’t say how it was. We stayed last night with my husband. The one receptionist I saw was nice enough. The room was tiny and stuffy, and I hurt my head badly on the wall. There was barely room to move. I couldn’t wait to get out in the morning, to be honest. Staines high street is walkable, but there’s not much going on there.

Lovely hotel, and I liked the room. The staff were really friendly, and breakfast and service were 10/10. No complaints, I’d definitely come back.
