The loaded burger was excellent, a quality ground beef patty cooked just right with a pile of tasty toppings, good buns, coleslaw, and fries in a basket. It was delicious and extremely filling, and the food overall was great. The bar service was a letdown, though. The young man behind the bar kept chatting with a booze supplier instead of greeting me, and seemed to think that was fine. His upcoming trip to Australia may be exciting for him, but it shouldn't have taken priority over welcoming a customer. He didn't apologise either. The low-alcohol beer selection was very limited and disappointing. The loos could use an upgrade, and the cables taped to the floor with gaffer tape don't look good and might be a Health and Safety concern.

The restaurant and breakfast room were pleasant, and breakfast was beautifully cooked, probably the best we've had on our Scottish road trip. The same helpful young lad seemed to be the only staff member around, yet he competently showed us to our room, took our meal order, served the food, covered the bar, and worked breakfast too. Our fish and chips and steak pie were tasty, though the 'triple-cooked' chips weren't anything special. The outside needs a makeover, and the room felt tired despite being large, with a large en-suite. It had quirky wooden additions that seemed unnecessary, an old-looking bath, a very basic ceiling light and TV wiring, and one curtain tieback was missing. The bedroom Wi-Fi wouldn't connect, though it worked in the dining room. The bed was comfortable, and we slept decently apart from some road noise through the single-glazed windows. Repainting the exterior and updating the bedrooms would make the place much more appealing.

Breakfast was fabulous, with plenty of coffee, a nice choice of teas, juices, and cereals. Leslie was friendly and efficient serving it, and the full Scottish breakfast was included in the price, which made the stay very good value. We also ate in the restaurant that evening. It was quiet, the food was excellent and nicely presented, and Mark was attentive and gave great table service. We were glad we stopped here overnight on the way from Gairloch to the Lake District. Room 4 was cosy, warm, comfortable, and clean, with a kettle and tea and coffee supplies, plus a TV. The hot shower was clean, and the en-suite was a decent size. The towels folded as swans on the bed were a lovely touch. A wonderful stay, especially as a stop on a long drive. Definitely recommend.

We had chicken terrine, venison, and steak pie, and the food was superb. Service was courteous and attentive. We made a last-minute booking for Thursday night. The rooms were a good size and clean, with drinks and a kettle provided. Someone mentioned thin curtains in a previous review, and that's true, but there's a blackout blind behind them. The decor isn't perfect, but the stay offers excellent value for money. Definitely recommend.
