Alma Lodge

Breakfast was hot, with lots to choose from and really good food. My family and I had a lovely stay on a bed-and-breakfast basis. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were so friendly and happy to help with anything. A big shout-out to Emma at reception and the lovely head housekeeper. I hear the hotel is being refurbished next year, and I can't wait to come back.

Breakfast was lovely, and the bridal room was stunning, with loads of space and great lighting for our group of about ten to get ready. We'd booked the Alma Lodge for a bridal sleepover, and had first been allocated a nice double room. When we asked at reception for more chairs, a lovely staff member upgraded us to the bridal room free of charge. The stay was perfect. Thanks so much for everything, I'd definitely recommend it. Xxx

The room felt a bit like staying at your nan's place. It was clean and worked fine, but looked as if it hadn't been updated since 1992. Still, I slept comfortably and it was quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the price was fairly low for the area. It's just over a mile from the train station. I'd stay again for a night if I was nearby.

The bed was comfortable, and the shower had lovely hot water and great pressure. I'm very glad it wasn't one of those trendy rain showers I hate. My only small gripe was that afternoon tea came without butter for the scone. Tracy had already done so much for me, so I didn't ask. The tea itself was delicious, and she looked after me attentively without hovering. The welcome and care from the team were brilliant throughout. Sarah, I think that was her name, was helpful before I arrived and called back promptly. When I arrived, she remembered me and had a new check-in form ready. Tracy took over and was incredibly friendly and professional, booked my Sunday tea, and even brought me to my room and turned on the heater because it was cold, during an unexpected cold snap. Emma handled the afternoon shift and carried my suitcase upstairs without hesitation, even though it was nearly bigger than her. With three birthday parties going on, she still made me feel like the only guest. Lynden was on nights, and as a smoker I was downstairs often. He was always patient with me over both nights. On Sunday, Tracy sorted the tea and was just as wonderful again. Full marks, thank you xx
