The location was the biggest drawback: you’ll need a cab to reach any decent pubs or restaurants, and there aren’t many good local restaurants nearby. The hotel’s evening menu is basic, though the breakfast buffet was good quality and well stocked. Staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a fairly new hotel, so the rooms are modern and laid out well, but the shower control in my bathroom was faulty. In winter, the heating has to be on full to warm the room.

The staff are always welcoming and go out of their way to accommodate. The rooms are warm and cosy, and we used to book a river view because we own a boat. Don’t choose a first-floor room for that view, though, as the outside lights spoil it at night. The bathroom sink is set too far back, so shaving leaves water on the floor. That’s my only gripe. Breakfast used to be, and probably still is, second to none in the area, and even the walk-in price was reasonable. I stayed regularly before, but less over the past year because the room rates have become out of reach for me.

Dinner at the restaurant was delicious, with excellent vegetarian choices, and the view over the Tees from my lovely room was great. Check-in was extremely quick. The hotel is only a stone’s throw from the Globe, where I saw the Here and Now Steps musical. Thank you for a great experience!

We stayed one night at Hampton by Hilton hotel in Stockton-on-Tees. Security was a real priority, which we liked: you need your room key to use the stairs or lifts to the rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast had plenty of variety, and a staff member kindly asked whether I wanted my croissants warmed. We also used the gym. It’s small, but has one of each piece of equipment.

I was here for work for two weeks. The staff were excellent, and the hotel was clean with fantastic amenities, but I barely got decent sleep. The mattress was rock hard, the pillows flattened to nothing, and the smoke detector right above the bed flashed brightly every 30 seconds. Aside from that, it’s a great hotel.
