We were the only customers when we stopped by for coffee around 11:30 in November. I went inside to order while the others sat outside. The server wouldn’t do anything until I went back out to confirm our table number, even though nobody else was around. Her manner and tone were blunt and unfriendly. After we ordered and paid, we waited about ten minutes before the waitress said they were waiting for the coffee machine to warm up. Then the coffees took another ten minutes. One cafe latte barely tasted of coffee. Bad service and a bad attitude.

The room was just right for what I needed, and it was warm. I stayed overnight at Crown Hotel and treated myself to three courses at dinner. Breakfast was included in the room price, and the team provided good service all round.

We came in for a pint and a bite, so I can’t comment on the rooms. A lovely fire was going, and we ordered a pint of Guinness, a breakfast tea even though it wasn’t on the tea list, and food to share. The Guinness was a perfect pint with a great head and tasted as good as any I’ve had out and about. I’m being picky, but the bar cloth used to wipe the overspill stood out to me from working in the trade. I’d suggest a paper napkin. The Cullen Skink was listed as a meal on its own, and it really was: big, plentiful chunks of fish and prawns. We’d spotted the desserts and hoped to save room, and by then we knew we’d found a winner. After a good two and a half hour walk, we were ready for the mains. The seafood pancake was packed with fish and prawns and full of flavour. It came with a whole head of broccoli, a large bowl of boiled potatoes to share, and seasonal vegetables, all cooked perfectly. My pheasant was at least a breast, if not more, served on haggis with a lovely jus. The portions defeated us, so we couldn’t manage dessert. We’ll definitely be back.

The views are amazing, and the staff made us feel welcome. Our room was spotless and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the food too.

We had a pleasant stay. The room was tidy and clean, with a great harbour view. Breakfast was fantastic, with a good range to choose from. Highly recommend.
