Railway Cottage

The owners communicated well before our stay. The accommodation was excellent for touring and enjoying the area, and I’d recommend it. The room was clean and practical, with a hairdryer, tea, coffee and other essentials. It faced the road and car park, so there was some traffic noise, but it wasn’t enough to disturb our sleep. I know the area well, and the town and beach are both within walking distance.

We chose a long weekend here with no breakfast, which suited us. The place was very clean throughout, and there was plenty of tea and coffee. Dogs are allowed, which had made me worry about smells, but the place smelled really fresh and there was no dog smell at all.

Railway Cottage worked perfectly for our short stay: we were in town for an event on Thursday evening and wanted to explore Swanage on Friday instead of driving the hour and a half home. There are plenty of places in town to eat and drink, so having just a room suited us well. We chose a small double room, but it was laid out well. The furnishings and en-suite were clean and practical. At 6' 1" I could reach the little fan on a high shelf. We got our room key from a key safe, and left it in the room when we went, so we didn’t see the hosts during our stay. That was no problem. The cottage is a short walk from the event venue, seafront, shops and places to eat. As described, there was plenty of free on-street parking nearby in a residential area that felt very safe. There’s also a large car park opposite, but we didn’t need it; it would have cost £30 for three days. We highly recommend Railway Cottage.

Everything we needed was there for a pleasant stay. The room was bright, modern, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The host was pleasant, and the beach and town are close by. Highly recommended.
