Springfield Guesthouse

The owners and managers were friendly and professional, and the continental breakfast was fab with lots to choose from. What a fantastic find, especially since the main hotels around here all seem to need updating. Definitely recommend.

We really liked the rooms, the view, and the lovely garden at the back. Check-in and breakfast are both self-service, so you don't meet any hospitality staff, but that didn't bother us. The breakfast room is cozy and nice. I would've liked a few more items: there were six of us, and some things ran short. For instance, only two pancakes were in the pastry basket when we were the first to arrive. Apart from that, it was perfect for us!

We spent three nights here, stopping on our way north and again on the way south. The beds are SO comfortable, and the rooms are gorgeous. Our room looked over the fields across a relatively quiet road. In town, I recommend the cathedral and museum. There's a long walk to the water and another up to a forest trail, both accessible on foot. Check military training times and rifle club activity first, though, since they can be noisy on your walk. Lovely town!

The room was clean and comfortable, and the berries with creamy local yogurt at breakfast were very nice. The seaview room only let us see the sea through a small gap between houses across the road. We never saw the hosts, so can't say much about service. Breakfast was continental only, as advertised, and OK, though the croissants were clearly pre-packed rather than fresh. Good stopover overall, with a short walk to the excellent 1864 station Restaurant and bar.
