Stonefield Castle

We really felt like we were living it up here. The rooms were comfortable, clean and welcoming, and there are cosy day rooms with fires and comfy chairs. The building is a proper period place, set among mature trees and Rhododendrons, with lots of birds around. Staff were attentive, polite and professional. There’s a nice bar with a good range of drinks, including whiskeys, and the dining room looks out over the loch. The food was delicious, though the menu was a bit limited, and breakfast was excellent. Dogs are truly welcome, and the staff enjoy having them around.

We absolutely loved our stay and would recommend making the trip, even if you’re travelling a long way. We drove about 3 hours and it was well worth it. The room and its facilities were excellent, and the interior styling and setting were fantastic. I can’t say enough good things about it, though the pictures might give you an idea. The Christmas theme probably made the place feel even more special to me, but I’d definitely come back in any season. After crossing the impressive entrance, we were greeted warmly, and every member of staff stayed friendly, helpful and professional throughout.

Every member of staff made us feel at home, from the cheerful welcome at reception to the dining team’s recommendations and housekeeping’s smooth service. That warmth and attentive care made the stay especially memorable. The views over Loch Fyne were breathtaking too. We watched the mist lift over the water, with the castle and manicured gardens in view, and spent hours taking in the loch and surrounding hills. Each window seemed to offer another lovely panorama. Stonefield Castle Hotel in Tarbet is a peaceful, memorable Scottish escape, with a genuine castle estate and a wonderful sense of history. We highly recommend it and can’t wait to return.

So far, this has been a wonderful experience of local art throughout the shared rooms, from the library and entrance to the stairs, lounge and restaurant. Dinner was fabulous, and breakfast is still to come tomorrow. I picked an economy room and it has a great view over the Loch. I’m hoping to tour the property and see some of the higher end rooms tomorrow.
