Corner House Hotel

The room worked perfectly for my wife’s accessible needs, and both breakfasts were first class. We’d first heard from The Corner House through a tentative email, then learned it belonged to The Hatton Group. We’d stayed at The Snooty Fox in Tutbury, Gloucestershire, a few years earlier, so we already knew one of their hotels. A friendly conversation with reception about finding an accessible room led us to book for Valentines weekend. Everything was smooth from there. The welcome emails and form we filled in ahead of time let us through the car park barrier, and check-in took just minutes. After a three-hour drive, that helped us relax straight away. We hadn’t planned to go out on our second night, but because it was Valentines Day, the restaurant was full. After speaking together, the duty manager and chef found a slot for us. We’re glad they did: the meal was delicious, filling and full of flavour. It made our Valentines evening memorable after more than 31 years of marriage. Checkout was just as easy. We met many guests and found most were returning, which we can understand. We’ll be back. What a great find!

We stayed two nights with family on the January deal, and the staff were helpful and accommodating. Since we were a large group celebrating our grandson’s birthday, they gave us the side room for dinner and breakfast. The food and service were great, check-in was easy, and the beds were comfy. A guest sitting room would have been useful, though.

Dinner at the restaurant was really, really good, and breakfast was delicious. Book direct if you want breakfast included. We stayed on a Saturday evening in October, and the staff were all lovely and efficient. My room, number 11, was a small double overlooking the rear and rooftops, but had everything I needed. It was very quiet, unlike the front-facing rooms used by some others in our party, where road noise was quite loud. The ensuite had a single shower cubicle and was very clean, with plenty of hot water and good pressure. There was fresh milk with the full tea and coffee service, plus an iron and hairdryer. The linens and towels were good quality.

Rachel Alfaro, the Assistant Manager, did a superb job coordinating our fairly large work Christmas dinner booking, even as the numbers kept changing. Service was brilliant from beginning to end, and it turned into a really lovely evening. The food was very good overall, though the sides were disappointing, overcooked mush. You don’t see venison on many menus, and that was delicious. Thank you.
