The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location right on Thame’s main street was great. We booked two rooms for two nights in the top floor of the Georgian section, the oldest part of the building. We expected some quirks, but both rooms could use better plumbing and a proper refresh. Investment there would make a real difference. If I’m back in the area, I’d consider one of the newer rooms, but I’d skip the old section.

Breakfast was a real highlight, with a good choice of fresh and hot food included. Our deluxe suite felt spacious, clean and comfortable, and the bed was great. It had a relaxing feel, too. The staff were helpful and friendly the whole time. I’d happily recommend the place and stay again.

The restaurant food was brilliant, and everyone I met on staff was friendly. I spent a week in a suite here. It’s a clean 15th Century building with plenty of character and everything you need. Parking is easy to find right behind the building, for a small fee.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the bed was comfortable. My room was basic but clean. The building is old and feels very dated, though there were some specific problems: a large water stain over the bed, a burn-like mark on the carpet, mould in a bathroom corner and a big crack above the bathroom door. The floor of the room sloped, so I wondered if the building was subsiding. I ate there once; the food was okay, but nothing special for the price. I skipped breakfast. It wasn’t a terrible stay, but for what I paid, the place could be much better.

We got married here a year ago and it was perfect. We came back for our anniversary, and the food was gorgeous. The crab cake starter was really tasty, and the roast beef with all the trimmings practically melted in my mouth. If you fancy a roast, Spread Eagle has you covered. It’s more than 400 years old, full of character, quirky and comfortable. If you want a cold, modern hotel with an average breakfast, this probably isn’t your place. Highly recommend.
