The Great Grubb

The garden was lovely, and John and Sandra made us feel very welcome. After several tough days camping and cycling across Dartmoor National Park, it was a treat to arrive somewhere with a clean, comfortable, very cute room. They also found a secure place for our bikes overnight. Breakfast was fantastic, and John kindly catered for both vegan and vegetarian diets. We’d happily book here again when we’re next in Totnes. Thanks to you both, John and Sandra.

We came back in 2023 for a longer stay and were looked after just as warmly as on our first visit. The breakfasts are the best I’ve had, and the location puts lots of interesting places within fairly easy reach. During our first stay, after our wedding in 2022, John and Sandra welcomed us so well that we felt like the only guests, while still making the others feel just as special. The room and whole place were cleaner than any hotel or B&B we’d stayed in before, there was plenty of choice at breakfast, and the hosts knew the area well. They’re naturally suited to running a B&B and could teach other hosts a thing or two. Lovely place. Thank you, Sandra and John. We hope to see you again.

The breakfasts were a great start to each day, and John and Sandra were so helpful, even suggesting some lovely walks. I had everything I needed in my room, including a good shower. It’s about a 15-minute walk into town, though I walk quite fast. For a short midweek break, I thought this was excellent value and would definitely recommend it.

The fresh fruit salad at breakfast was a favourite, and there was a nice touch for guests who prefer fresh milk: little jugs kept in the dining-room fridge. Our room was clean and comfortable, though perhaps a little small, and the bathroom and shower were excellent. Sandra and her husband were so friendly. We chatted in their lovely garden after arriving. We stayed two nights and would happily return if we’re in the area. The station was about a 15-20 minute walk, and town about 15 minutes.
