Newby Bridge Hotel

The Newby Bridge Hotel was a great base for seeing the area. It’s close to the lake, with Bowness, Ambleside, Haverthwaite steam railway and the lakeland Motor museum all an easy drive away. Parking could be an issue when it’s busy, though, and the hotel was almost full during our stay. Even so, service was prompt and the staff were friendly throughout. We booked two nights in October through Travelzoo. The offer included £30 dining credit per person, which I thought was excellent. Our room was spacious, clean, modern and well decorated, with a comfortable bed and everything we needed. The dining room was bright and spacious, with pleasant garden views. Breakfast was self-service and had just about everything you could want. We enjoyed cod and chips on Friday, then a lovely Steak and Guinness pie the next evening. We also tried Sunday’s carvery, which was very good. All in all, a perfect weekend. Thanks to the hard working staff at the Hotel!

The breakfast room was nice and the food was okay, but I was very disappointed with the rest of the stay. Our family room needed a good clean, and the free bottle of prosecco came in a dirty bucket with lipstick on the glasses, so I didn’t even open it. We’d booked a breakfast deal that included access to the “leisure facilities,” and that description felt very generous. The jacuzzi was broken, the steam room was being used for storage, the pool was cold, and there were only about four pieces of gym equipment. I complained to the hotel a week ago and haven’t even had an acknowledgement. It definitely wasn’t value for money. Maybe we were unlucky with the room, but I wouldn’t return.

The rooms were quiet and the place felt cosy and warm. Breakfast was nice, too. We had a few problems with our original accommodation, but the lady on reception was incredibly helpful and polite. She went above and beyond to find us a room we were happy with and made sure things were sorted to our satisfaction. Her service made a real difference to the stay. I’d stay again.

The staff we met were all friendly and very effective, and we had a very good stay. Dinner was tasty with a good choice, served in a nice restaurant overlooking the garden. The breakfast buffet also had plenty to choose from. Our room was clean and warm, the beds were very comfortable, and there was plenty of very hot water. The Hotel could do with refurbishment, as the carpets are worn and shabby and the rooms feel a bit dated.
