Happy Guests Lodge

We got to Happy Lodge at 8:30 PM on 14th February, right on time, only to be told there was no room for us. Nobody had sent a cancellation email, called, or messaged us, so we knew nothing until we arrived. The manager spoke abusively when we tried to sort it out and wouldn’t help, leaving my husband and me stranded late at night. It was extremely stressful. The lack of communication, professionalism, and basic customer service was unacceptable.

Do not book here. I’d had a reservation at 'Happy Guests Lodge' for 11 months and paid in full for three nights. Then, three days before the stay, they emailed to say it was cancelled. When I called, the man was extremely rude and tried to blame booking.com. They advertised the room again for three times what I’d paid and said I could still have it if I paid the new rate. Absolutely shocking. I’ll take this further, as I understand this isn’t allowed under UK customer law. Just a warning to anyone considering staying here, don’t bother.

We’d had this room booked since August last year, but they cancelled three days before our stay, so we never even got to visit. The person at reception gave three different reasons, screamed at me down the phone, then hung up on me more than once. I’ve never had worse customer service. It looks like they just want more money, since they doubled the room price at the last minute. We were planning this weekend for a year, and the cancellation caused us so much stress and nearly ruined it. I’d avoid booking here, especially if you’re coming for something local.

Absolutely awful, don’t stay here. There was a rag stuffed behind the toilet to catch a leak, the bath was held together with black duct tape, and the door was smashed. The food hygiene score displayed on the door was false. I think the receptionist took my booking.com PIN, maybe that’s how they get fake reviews. I’ll tell the council they’re showing the wrong hygiene rating. This place needs to be shut down.
